While Pikachu was just another of the 151 original Pokemon, it was the anime that propelled Pikachu into the status of the Pokemon mascot.

But did you know that Pikachu might never have been the company's mascot? Rumors around Rhyhorn, Charizard, Poliwhirl, and even Clefairy were all considered for the role before settling on the little yellow mouse.

This Dragon Tattoo is of Flygon the 330th Pokemon in the Pokedex.

Flygon was intended to get a Mega Evolution in Pokémon X and Y, but the idea was later dropped due to Pokemon illustrator Ken Sugimori experiencing an artist's block.

Eevee Family Tattoo

Eevee is the game mascot and starter Pokémon for Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!

Eevee also has the most branched evolutions, with a total of eight. 

This lovely Eeveelution Pokemon Tattoo has each of the Eevee evolution forms that the series has to date.

Yin Yang Pokemon Tattoo

Yin-Yang is the Chinese Philosophical concept of two opposing forces working together to form a complementary whole.

This cool Yin-Yang Tattoo Design has both Gyarados and Arcanine symbolizing both sides of the symbol, although I’m not sure how fire and water complement each other in the Pokemon world, unless of course you mean that they’re both in your team to cover each other's weaknesses in battle. 

Pokemon Sprites Tattoo

A sprite is a 2D image of a character or object from a video game.

Spites were our first introduction to Pokemon all the way back in 1996. 

These sprites come from Pokemon  Crystal, Gold, and Silver with a roster of Bulbasaur, Nodorino, Starymie, Joltion, Primeape, and Charizard.

Pokemon X Naruto Tattoo

This Anime Tattoo has Metwo looking like Pain, a member of the Akatsuki.

The Akatsuki were a group of shinobi that existed outside the usual system of hidden villages within the Naruto universe. 

Handpoked Pokemon Tattoo

Handpoked Tattoos consist of a collection of closely spaced dots that create lines, shapes, and designs.

This gorgeous Dewgong Tattoo is done in a half-and-half design showing the outer layer and the internals of Dewgong.

Dewgong is the 87th Pokemon in the Pokedex and in the Pokémon Red and Blue beta, Dewgong was originally known as "Manaty".

TMNT X Pokemon Tattoo

Here is a clever Cartoon Tattoo. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or TMNT for short follows Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo, four anthropomorphic turtle brothers trained in ninjutsu who fight evil in New York City.

This fun design has four Squirtles cosplaying as the heroes of the TMNT franchise. 

Pokemon X Spiderman Tattoo

Another cool crossover Tattoo Design here. This Pokemon X Spiderman has Charmander under the influence of the Venom symbiote from the Spiderman franchise.

Symbiotes are a fictional species of extraterrestrial parasitic life forms that bond with their hosts, altering their personalities and physical strength. 

Rhydon Tattoo Idea

While most Pokemon fans will recognise Rhydon as the evolved form of Rhyhorn, what they might not know is that Rhydon was the first ever Pokemon made.

You can see Rhydon’s influence in the first games, as there are many Rhydon statues throughout the buildings in Red and Blue, particularly in the Gyms.

Rhydon was also considered as Pokemon mascot, but due to his dull color scheme and male-centric appearance the idea was dropped. 

Clefairy Tattoo

Clefairy is the 35th Pokemon in the Pokemon franchise, originally a Normal type Pokemon, it was changed to a Fairy type with its introduction from the VI generation.

Clefairy was another pretender to the throne as Pokemon mascot, yet was pushed aside due to Clefairy feeling too female-centric.

There was also a data breach that suggested the potential of a Pokemon Pink game, meaning Clefairy may have been a partner mascot alongside Pikachu. 

Pokemon X Dragon Ball Tattoo

If you’re a lover of the Dragon Ball series then check out this Pokemon X Dragon Ball Tattoo.

This nice design has Squirtle playing the role of Son Goku flying on Nimbus with his power pole and the Four Star Dragon Ball behind him.

Although I love this design, I think Squirtle’s shape would have suited Krillin better. 

Poliwhirl Tattoo

Objectively the best Pokemon is Poliwhirl, and don't take my word for it, that comes from both myself and Tajiri Satoshi, the creator of Pokemon himself.

Poliwhirl too was pushed as a mascot for Pokemon, even after Pikachu obtained the title.

There’s a lot of  Poliwhirl merchandise that was produced during the start of the Pokemon craze, with Poliwhirl even appearing on the cover of TIME Magazine.

Umbreon and Espeon Pokemon Tattoo

If you love the themes of light and dark then get an Umbreon and Espeon Tattoo.

Umbreon and Espeon were the first Pokemon whose evolution was based on the time of day and some of the first to evolve based on friendship levels.

Here is a cool crossover Video Game Tattoo. Here we have Charmander dressed to look like Tonberry a recurring enemy from the Final Fantasy series.

In battle, Tonberries advance towards the player party and when close use their signature Chef's Knife attack, which either does massive damage or instantly kills a party member.

Pidgeot Tattoo

This cool Pidgeot Design comes from Tattoo Artist Los.

Los focuses his art to look like it is from Ancient Aztec paintings with bold coloring and intricate patterns.

This Design of Pidgeot is super cool as if it is one of the deities of the ancient Aztec culture.

Whooper Tattoo

Whooper is a Pokemon based off of the axolotl. It is implied in the anime that Wooper is a dull-witted Pokémon oblivious to its surroundings.

Wooper was one of the first Pokémon to have its gender differences revealed, along with Scizor.

This cute Whooper Tattoo has three normal colored Whoopers along with one shiny. 

Origami Pokemon Tattoo

This great design by axel_alien has Feraligator done in an Origami style.

Axel does a lot of different tattooing but seems to focus predominantly on the origami style.

This Feraligator is wonderfully done with incredible detailing with lovely patterns. 

Butterfree Pokemon Tattoo

This Pokemon Tattoo has both a Pink Butterfly Tattoo and a Purple Butterfly Tattoo in its design with both Ash’s Buterfree and his mate the Pink Butterfree.

Butterfree’s first form Caterpie was the first Pokemon Ash ever caught, and his farewell episode still brings a tear to my eye to this day. 

Psyduck Tattoo

Psyduck debuted in episode Hypno's Naptime, where he was accidentally caught by Misty.

Even though he was shown as dimwitted and oblivious, when his headaches became bad enough, Psyduck was shown to use phenomenally powerful Psychic-type moves, which far exceed its normal ability.

Pokeball Tattoo

Pokeballs are a type of item in the Pokemon series that allow trainers to capture and tame wild Pokemon.

Poké Balls were invented in the Johto region, where Apricorns were cut apart and carved out, then fitted with a special device, and used to catch wild Pokémon.

This Pokeball Tattoo is of the first four ever Pokeballs, the normal Pokeball, the Great Ball, the Ultra Ball, and the Master Ball

Pokemon Frame Tattoo

This Pokemon Tattoo is done in a frame style by tattooist_eq, depicting Gyarados and Magikarp.

Gyarados is inspired by the Koi Fish who swam up a waterfall and was honored by the Gods for its determination by being transformed into a mighty Dragon.

This cool tattoo even includes The Thousand Sunny from the One Piece franchise.

Goruchu Pokemon Tattoo

For people who aren’t in the know, they might look at this Tattoo and think it’s some kind of fan made creation.

However, Goruchu was in fact the original final design of the Pikachu linage of Pokemon that ended up on the cutting room floor.

Goruchu was scrapped because the GameBoy cartridge was running out of space and there were already plenty of three-stage families.

Chandelure Tattoo

Chandelure is a Pokemon that resembles a sentient chandelier. Chandelure's flames do not burn their victims physically; rather, they burn the victim's spirit.

After hypnotizing its opponent by waving these flames, it can absorb its victim's spirit. This cute Chandelure Tattoo is done to make it look like a key chain. 

Ho-Oh Tattoo

This Phoenix Tattoo is of Ho-Oh. Ho-Oh is considered the guardian of the skies and has a mythical power to resurrect the dead being the one to resurrect the three legendary dog Pokemon after they perished in the Burned Tower.

Ho-Oh is the first of the second generation Pokemon to appear in the anime, having appeared at the end of episode one. 

Cyndaquil Tattoo

Cyndaquil is the 155th Pokemon in the Pokedex. Cyndaquil's firepower is described as being tremendously powerful.

However, if it is tired, the flames are not able to burn properly.

Ash caught a Cyndaquil in the Good 'Quil Hunting episode of the anime and during its early days on Ash's team, Cyndaquil would easily become tired out.

Surfing Pikachu

If you love both Pokemon and surfing then try out a surfing Pikachu Tattoo.

The surfing Pikachu was featured in a minigame exclusive to Pokémon Yellow, called Pikachu's Beach.

In the anime Puka is a Pikachu based on surfing Pikachu, making its only appearance in The Pi-Kahuna.

Jirachi Tattoo

Jirachi is the 385th Pokemon in the Pokedex. Jirachi awakens for seven days every thousand years, but can also waken if sung to by a voice of purity. 

Jirachi debuted in a major role in Jirachi: Wish Maker, where it was revealed to only awaken during the week of the Millennium Comet, where it would search for a partner to be its friend,

Spheal Tattoo

Spheal is the 363rd Pokemon in the Pokedex. When it is happy or cheerful, this Pokémon will clap its fins.

Because its body is poorly shaped for swimming and it can only walk slowly and moves primarily by rolling across ice floes. This cute Spheal Tattoo is done in the shape of a cool charm.

Ancient Mew Card Tattoo

The Ancient Mew card was released as a promotional card in the year 2000 and was given out with the purchase of a ticket for the theatrical run of The Power of One Pokemon film.

The first Japanese prints of the card featured a speckle Holofoil treatment and misspelled Nintendo in the copyright text on the card border as "Nintedo"

Mantine Pokemon Tattoo

Mantine thrives in open seas where it swims freely, often in schools where they race one another.

Mantine is sometimes seen with a Remoraid attached to the underside of one of its fins.

In Alola, many surfers ride waves and travel between islands on the backs of Mantine. This is another great Aztec design done by Los. 

Togepi Tattoo 

If you’re someone who has a sensitive side, try out this crying Togepi Tattoo.

In the anime Ash found Togepi’s Egg at the end of Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon.

Togepi hatched four episodes later, in Who Gets to Keep Togepi? and upon hatching, it imprinted on Misty.

Tangela Pokemon Tattoo

While there is no confirmation, it is speculated that Tangela is based on the Sargassum, a seaweed monster popularly used in Japanese pop culture.

However, its origin may point out that it was at least originally going to be designed around a Gorgon as Tengela’s Beta name was ‘Meduza’ 

Mega Charizard Y

This Black Dragon Tattoo is of shiny Charizard Y, one of the two mega evolutions of Charizard introduced in Generation VI.

Mega Charizard Y is said to have incredible flying prowess that is greater than a jet fighter. 

Collarbone Pokemon Tattoo

Here is a fun little idea for your Pokemon Tattoo that gives it a three-dimensional feel by taking advantage of your anatomy.

Here we have three of the starter Pokemon, Charmander, Totodile and Mudkip all hanging onto the wearers collarbone by biting into it and dangling down. 

Pontya Tattoo

Surprisingly for a series that takes so much inspiration from real and mythical animals, it took all the way up until generation VIII until we got a true rendition of a stereotypical Unicorn.

The original Ponyta and Rapidash while based on Unicorns seemed to be more centred around the Greek myths of Helios and his horse-drawn chariot that flew across the skies. 

Pokemon X Hello Kitty Tattoo

Hello Kitty is a fictional character created by Yuko Shimizu and owned by the Japanese company Sanrio.

As of 2010, Hello Kitty was worth an estimated $5 billion a year and The New York Times called her a "global marketing phenomenon."

So if you love both Hello Kitty and Pokemon, try fusing your love together with this Sylveon X Hello Kitty Tattoo. 

Toxtricity Tattoo

Toxtricity is the 849th Pokemon in the Pokedex. Toxtricity is the only Electric/Poison type Pokemon in the entire series, with Toxtricity also appearing to be based on punk rock guitarists.

Toxtricity’s appearance features several fashion elements commonly associated with punk, such as the mohawk hairstyle, torn pants, and spiked bracelets and belts.

Hydreigon Pokemon Tattoo

Hydreigon is the 635th Pokemon in the Pokedex. Hydreigon is a violent, destructive Pokemon that will attack anything that moves, determining it a foe.

The three heads will take turns when attacking, not stopping until their target is defeated.

Despite having three heads, Hydreigon still is a singular entity.

Pastel Skeleton Pokemon

One of the more unique designs on this list, check out this strange Pastel Skeleton Squirtle Tattoo.

This Tattoo Design is super cool with Squirtle’s body looking like it is made out of a see-through jelly-like substance so we can see through to his bones.  

Poliwhirl Lineage Tattoo

The Poliwhirl Lineage is my favorite of all the Pokemon, and as stated before, Poilwhirl is my favorite Pokemon of all.

If there was any type of ‘Poli’ merchandise I wanted it (not that my father got it for me), and you better believe I’ve raised multiple Poilwhirl’s to level 100 over the years.

I never did like Poliwrath's design, but Politoad is in my top 10 Pokemon too. 

Gyarados Tattoo

Gyarados is the 130th Pokemon in the Pokedex. According to the Pokedex entries in Pokemon Ruby and Omega Ruby, When Magikarp evolves into Gyarados, its brain cells undergo a structural transformation.

It is said that this transformation is to blame for this Pokémon’s wildly violent nature.  

Pokebats Tattoo

If you love bats as well as Pokemon then this is probably the design for you.

In all there are 10 bat Pokemon in the entire Pokemon series, I’ll leave it to you to try and name them all. 

This cute little Tattoo Design has three of the ten Bat Pokemon to date, with Zubat, Woobat, and Noibat. 

Garydos Tattoo

If you love Spongebob and Pokemon, you should consider getting a Garydos Pokemon X Spongebob Tattoo.

Gary is SpongeBob SquarePants' pet sea snail who lives with him in his pineapple house on 124 Conch Street.

Gary was originally intended to be a minor joke character but was eventually added to the main cast of characters.

Pokemon Ouroboros Tattoo

The Ouroboros is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail.

The Ouroboros symbol is meant to be a positive image that represents unity and the natural eternal cycle of destruction and re-creation.

This Oroborus Tattoo Design is of Rayquaza. Rayquaza is said to have lived for hundreds of millions of years in the ozone layer, where it feeds on water and other particles.

Shaymin Pokemon Tattoo

Shaymin is the 492nd Pokemon in the Pokedex. Shaymin can purify any polluted area of all impurities in the air and transform it into a lush field of flowers.

Shaymin debuted in the Pokemon movie, Giratina and the Sky Warrior, where it was fleeing from Giratina. Giratina wanted to use Shaymin's Seed Flare to open a portal from the Reverse World to the real world. This cute charm design has both Shaymin and Sprigatito.

Milotic Tattoo

Milotic is the 350th Pokemon in the Pokedex. Thought of as being the most beautiful Pokemon in all the Pokemon world, Milotic has inspired many artists in their works.

I really like this Milotic Tattoo as it makes great use of the leg anatomy by coiling around the wearer's knee and I love the addition of the two Luvdisc. 

Zekrom Tattoo

Zekrom is the 644th Pokemon in the Pokedex debuting as the mascot for Pokemon White in 2010.

In the Unovan myth about the twin heroes, Zekrom sided with the younger brother who sought ideals.

Pokeball Candy Tattoo

If you’re someone who has a bit of a sweet tooth, try out this Pokeball Candy Tattoo.

This Tattoo Design is really well done with excellent detailing with the refection effects on the wrapper.

While I’ve never personally come across any Pokeball themed sweets in my life, I really do want to try one now! 

Houndoom Tattoo

Houndoom is the 229th Pokemon in the Pokedex who seems to be based on the legends of hellhounds, black dogs, and possibly Cerberus of Greek mythology.

Houndoom’s gut is full of toxins, which are used to create unique fire mixed with poison.

This Houndoom design has Houndoom’s face replaced with a skull to make him look even more fearsome. 

Lapras Tattoo

Lapras is the 131st Pokemon in the Pokedex. Lapras is a gentle, helpful Pokémon that enjoys ferrying people across bodies of water.

I remember Lapras used to bother me as a child purely because I wanted each Pokemon who learned Surf to have their own sprites in Pokemon Gold and Silver, but it was always a Red Lapras. 

Battle Worn Blastoise

Here is another cool idea for your Pokemon Tattoo. This Design shows a Blastoise looking absolutely exhausted after a long and hard-fought battle.

Blastoise has arrows stuck in his shell, scars, and cracks all over his body, and he is using his sword to keep himself upright. 

Metagross Tattoo

Metagross is the 376th Pokemon in the Pokedex. Mega Metagross achieves its form by linking up a Metagross, a Metang, and two Beldum together.

Metagross is also the only pseudo-Legendary Pokémon that, in its debut generation, had no members of its evolutionary line able to be encountered in the wild

The Pokemon Center Tattoo

There is probably no location more iconic in the Pokemon franchise than the Pokemon Center.

If you’ve played the Pokemon games over the years then you can probably hear the theme tune as you read this.

The Pokemon Center Tattoo is based off the Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald versions. 

Starters Pokemon Tattoo

Choosing between which of the three starter Pokemon was once the most difficult decision in the lives of many children in the mid to late 90’s.

My choice was made a little easier as my older brother refused to let me pick Charmander because that was his choice, and anyway, we needed to restart the game again so we could trade over the last of the starter three later anyway. 

Weezing Tattoo

Weezing and Coffin were two of my least favorite Pokemon back in the days of Red and Blue.

I never liked the design of either, but more importantly, they always poisoned some of my party.

I still have that anxiety of the screen making that horrible noise and effect every time their HP was being sapped by the poison out of battle while I desperately tried to make it back to the Pokemon Center. 

Deoxys Tattoo

Deoxys is the 386th Pokemon in the Pokedex and is a Pokemon that was formed by the mutation of a virus from space.

Deoxys is highly intelligent with its brain appearing to be the crystal in its chest. Deoxys was the first non-in-game obtainable (without a code) Pokemon I ever got by using the Global Trade Link. 

Celebi Pokemon Tattoo

Celebi is the 251st Pokemon in the Pokedex. Celebi is a Mythical Pokémon, known in legend as the "Voice of the Forest."

It is able to travel through time and exist simultaneously throughout time. This cool Celebi Tattoo is really well done with Celebi having an addition of a third eye. 

Breloom Tattoo

Breeloom is the 286th Pokemon in the Pokedex. Breloom can stretch its short arms to deliver fast punches and has springy footwork that allows it to get close to opponents.

Breelom can also incapacitate its opponents with spores released from the holes in its cap. 

Scizor Tattoo

Scizor is the 212th Pokemon in the Pokedex. Scizor's body is made of metal that is as hard as steel, with pincers strong enough to crush any object.

When it sees an enemy, Scizor will beat up the opponent to the point there is nothing but scrap left afterward. Pretty morbid for Pokemon. 

Steelix Tattoo

Steelix is the 208th Pokemon in the Pokedex and the first ever steel-type Pokemon introduced into the Pokemon series.

Steelix can dig even towards the world's core and easily chews through boulders with its powerful jaws.

Steel Pokemon are cool on their own, but what's even cooler is having your Steelix as a Mecha, right? 

Grookey Tattoo

Grookey is the 810th Pokemon in the Pokedex and one of the starting Pokemon for Generation VIII.

Grookey is the only first partner Pokémon to make its anime debut in a work other than the main series, being GOTCHA! a special music video that was first released as part of a video about the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass.

Ampharos Pokemon Tattoo

Ampharos is the 181st Pokemon in the Pokedex.

The orb on Ampharos’ tail is so bright that it can be seen from outer space and is even used by people as a beacon or to send signals across the ocean.

Vaporeon is the 134th Pokemon in the Pokedex and is one of eight possible evolutions for Eevee.

Gym Badges are the reward you receive for defeating one of the usually eight gym leaders scattered across the region of a given Pokemon game.

This Forearm Tattoo has the gym batches of the Kanto region, the first region in the Pokemon series.

Golduck is also known for saving people in shipwrecks and is even known to paddle its webbed limbs while sleeping.

Raichu is the 26th Pokemon in the Pokedex and the evolved form of the Pokemon mascot Pikachu.

The Alolan form of Raichu is the only one to have an Electric/Psychic typing. Raichu is also the most common Pokémon found among rivals in the Pokemon game series, being used by five of them.

Oh Dragonite, I can’t remember how many times I lost to Lance’s version of this Pokemon when he would keep spamming the Hyperbeam defeating all my Pokemon in one hit back when I first played Pokemon Blue.

Coupled with the move Barrier which Dragonite can't actually learn or be taught, he was an absolute menace that I still have nightmares about until this day. 

Daniel Arsham Inspired Pokemon Tattoo

Here is a neat idea for your Pokemon Tattoo. This neat design is Mewtwo inspired by American artist Daniel Arsham’s style of art.

Ditto had a scrapped evolution in the 1997 Nintendo Space World demo of Pokémon Gold and Silver named Animon, which evolves from Ditto using a Metal Coat.

Aipom is the 190th Pokemon in the Pokedex.

Aipom wraps its tail around a tree when it wants to fall asleep so it wont fall down, and it uses its tail so much its real arms become far less dexterous over time.

This Pokemon Bear Tattoo is of Stufful the 759th Pokemon in the Pokedex.

Despite being cute and cuddly, this Pokemon hates being touched and will flail about if it is embraced. Its flailing is powerful enough to break thick tree trunks.

Possibly one of the most annoying Pokemons in my youth was Snorlax.

Being a child with little patience, Snorlax blocking my progression always bothered me even on repeat playthroughs.

This Kitsune Tattoo is of Ninetails the 38th Pokemon in the Pokedex.

Ninetails will curse anyone who mistreats it, particularly anyone who wakes it up by grabbing its tail.

The Pokemon Fusion website let people crossover a lot of their favorite designs but was extremely limited only imposing the face of one Pokemon on the body of another, so maybe your Tattoo artist can come up with cooler designs such as this Squrtle/Rattata hybrid. 

Pokemon X Mortal Combat

While Pokemon is an RPG, at heart really it’s a fighting game, so crossover your Pokemon series Tattoo with a Fighting series Tattoo with this Charmander/Scorpion Tattoo.

Scorpion is a yellow-dressed ninja, whose primary weapon is a kunai rope dart that has appeared in every Mortal Kombat game. 

Scyther Tattoo

Scyther is the 123rd Pokemon in the Pokedex.

Due to its color, Scyther is great at camouflaging in the grasslands where it lives making it an adept hunter that tears its prey with its scythes. 

Scyther is the only Pokémon with a split evolution to have had both of its evolutions introduced after its debut.

Hawlucha Tattoo

Another great Aztec design from Kol, and it couldn’t be more appropriate as this Pokemon is based in the home of the Aztecs, Mexico.

A prolific fighter in its own right, Hawlucha can be easily taken advantage of in battle due to its vanity, During a battle it leaps around to stay in its opponent's blind spots, and controls its position in the air by using its wings

Ekans Tattoo

Ekans is the 23rd Pokemon in the Pokedex.

Ekans was Jessie's first Pokemon which she received her Ekans as a chūgen gift prior to the start of the series. 

Ekans can detect prey by flicking their tongues and are able to detach their jaws to swallow large prey.

Large meals can make Ekans too heavy to move or become stuck causing them to faint

If you love Pokeballs but don’t think they’re cute enough, try making it a cute Pikachu Pokeball.

Poke Balls are inspired by the capsules from gashapon machines, which contain small, handheld toys.

Arceus Tattoo

Arceus is known as "The Original One", possibly being the God of Pokemon who created all of the Pokemon Universe.

Ah Zubat, originally my most hated of all Pokemon.

Anyone who played the original Pokemon back in the day of no repel items will know perfectly well why Zubat was so hated.

You couldn’t walk into a single cave without meeting what felt like an unending number of our blind friends.

Thankfully things aren’t so bad these days, but I still don't get excited going into caves in the Pokemon series to this day with how Zubat scared me. 

Raikou Tattoo

This Saber-toothed Tiger Tattoo is of Raikou the 243rd Pokemon in the Pokedex.

Raikou is said to represent the lightning strike that ignited the fire that consumed the Brass Tower, an event that led to the deaths of the three legendary dogs before they were all resurrected by Ho-Oh.

Solgaleo is known as ‘the beast that devours the sun’ whose body is capable of holding a vast amount of energy that radiates so bright it can make nighttime look like midday. 

Tribal Pokemon Tattoo

Tribal Tattoos are known for their bold black lines and geometric patterns.

Each design carries its own meaning and significance, often related to status, achievements, or spiritual beliefs within the community. 

This amazing Tribal Tattoo is of Lucario the aura Pokemon who can study auras to predict the movements of its opponents and track their quarry.

Lavender Town Ghost Tattoo

I played Pokemon first when I was about 7 years old and I distinctly remember the first time I entered Lavender Town from Rock Tunnel.

I was immediately frightened by the depressing atmosphere and creepy music of Lavender Town.

It especially didn’t help when I came across the Marowak Ghost who scared the life out of me, but being a big boy in my own mind I couldn’t tell anyone out of fear of sounding lame.

So obviously on my second play through I tried to convince my brother to play through Lavender Town for me because “I needed to go to the bathroom.”

Diglett Tattoo

If you ask me, I think the only reason Digeltt is popular is because of the mystery as to what he actually looks like.

There has been a lot of memes over the years of what he might actually be, but according to this design, Diglett is a member of the R&B group Blackstreet. 

Chikorita Tattoo

Chikorita is the 152nd Pokemon in the Pokedex and was a member of Ash’s roster of Pokemon being the second Pokemon he caught in the Johto region and being his sixteenth Pokemon overall.

This lovley Pokemon design has an Autumn themed Chikorita enjoying itself a nice Pumpkin Spice Latte. 

Vanilluxe Pokemon Tattoo

I know a lot of people don’t like Vanilluxe or the Vanillite line because they’re ‘just Ice cream cones’, but actually they are one of my favorites in the franchise, and after all, Gen I had a Pokemon that was just a few magnets stuck together.

This design is super cute with one head of Vanilluxe angry as Totodile takes a bite out of it. 

Pokemon X Sonic Tattoo

I adore this Design, while it might not be an entirely accurate as Sandslash isn’t a hedgehog and is in fact a pangolin, this still fits so well together.

Funnily enough, for a series with well over 1000 Pokemon, it only has one hedgehog in Shaymin.

I have to admit one thing though, the only time I’ve ever played as Sonic was in Super Smash Brothers.

Snorunt Tattoo

Snorunt is another one of my favorite Pokemon designs just for how cute he looks.

I never did like his evolved forms of Glalie or Froslass so I have in fact got a Snorunt at level 100 in one of my Pokemon games.

And did you know that even though Ice-type have existed since the first Generation of Pokemon, Snorunt is the first pure Ice-type in the Pokedex.

Fu Dog Arcanine

Here is a cool idea for your Pokemon Tattoo.

Fu Dogs are the Guardian protectors of Imperial palaces, Imperial tombs, government offices, temples, and the homes of government officials and the wealthy, as they are believed to have powerful mythic protective benefits. 

This amazing Tattoo has Arcanine in the design of a Fu Dog possibly standing guard in front of a fire-based gym. 

Pokemon X Demon Slayer

Another amazing crossover design, check out this Pokemon X Demon Slayer Tattoo.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba follows Demon Slayers who master different breathing techniques to battle demons.

This incredbly clever design takes the breathing concept and imbues into the Pokemon World having Pikachu as Zenitsu the Thunder breather, Squirtle as Tanjiro who often uses Water breathing, and Charmander as Rengoku the fire breathing Hashira. 

Kingler Tattoo

This Animal Tattoo is of Kingler the 99th Pokemon in the Pokedex.

Kingler is usually found near the ocean at the edges of the water. Kinglers claws have up to 10,000 horsepower that are capable of cracking open the shells of Shellder and Cloyster.

Kingler's large, left claw is its main tool for offensive maneuvers, but is so large and heavy that Kingler struggles to lift it.

Ariana Grande Eevee Tattoo

If you’re a fan of the American pop star then perhaps you already know that Ariana Grande has a Pokemon Tattoo of Eevee on her arm.

Ariana allegedly loves Pokemon and Eevee as she told a fan once on Twitter now X, "Honestly. Yesterday I had a day off and I played Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee for fifteen hours. Honestly,"

Darth Alakazam Tattoo

We couldn’t go through a list of Pokemon crossovers without having a Star Wars Tattoo thrown in, could we?

Considering Jedi and Sith are known for using psychic-like abilities, who could be more appropriate to become a Sith Master than Alakazam?

And did you know that Alakazam's previous form, Kadabra, hadn’t appeared in the Pokemon trading card game for 20 years due to a lawsuit between Uri Geller and Nintendo?

Pokemon Card Tattoo

Speaking of the trading card game, why not get yourself a Pokemon Tattoo of one of the trading cards?

Pokemon cards were released in Japan in 1996 and were based on the Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow Game Boy video games.

Duskull Tattoo

A favorite of my brother, Duskull is the 355th Pokemon in the Pokedex.

It appears to be based on the personification of the Grim Reaper, who enjoys the crying of children.

Duskull is primarily a nocturnal Pokémon that likes to live in thick forests.

Being one of my brother's favorites, yes, we do have a level 100 Duskull, too. 

Crystal Onix

One of my absolute favorite Pokemon from the Pokemon anime was the Crystal Onix.

I genuinely used to search the caves of Pokemon Blue believing that one really did exist someone in there if I looked hard enough.

Alas, the Crystal Onix only ever appeared in the anime episode ‘The Crystal Onix’, never to be seen or heard from again. 

Sandshrew Tattoo

Sandshrew is the 27th Pokemon in the Pokedex and if it wasn’t for Poliwhirl, would have been my favorite Pokemon from the entire series.

If Sandshrew wasn’t cool enough already, he was given an ice-type form in Generation VII with his Alolan form.

Sandshrew spends much of its time hidden underground and only emerges to drag in passing Bug-type Pokémon for food.

I also just love Pangolins and I’m wearing a Pangolin shirt while I write this. 

Phanphy Pokemon Tattoo

This Elephant Tattoo is of Phanphy the 231st Pokemon in the Pokedex.

Despite its small size, Phanphy’s trunk is extremely strong with it being able to send a person flying with an affectionate, playful bump of its snout.

Phanphy is also easily capable of carrying an adult human on its back, with Ash even having one in his roster of Pokemon during the series. 

Drifloon Tattoo

Drifloon is the 425th Pokemon in the Pokedex. Creepily, The Japanese version of Pearl's Pokédex entry states that Drifloon specifically takes children to the "world of the dead."

Very spooky. But despite its reputation, Drifloon can be a friendly and helpful Pokemon.

Azurill Tattoo

Azurill is the 298th Pokemon in the Pokedex and was a Pokemon owned by Misty in the anime.

Azurill is the only become to ever change its gender after evolving.

One out of every three female Azurill will evolve into a male Marill, but from Generation VI on, Azurill retains its gender upon evolving 

Kitsune Mask Pokemon Tattoo

If you’re a fan of Japanese Mask Tattoos then why not get yourself a Japanese Mask Tattoo of a Pokemon?

This cool idea has the Kitsune Japanese Mask but is inspired by Vulpix with some nice added-in Pokeballs too. 

Pokeball Sushi Tattoo

Everyone who loves Japan will know that one of their most famous delicacies is Sushi.

This super cool Tattoo Design has the Pokeball in the shape of both rice as the bottom half of the ball, and the sashimi fish as the top half. 

Slowbro Lineage Tattoo

Having watched the anime before playing the games, I fully expected that you needed to catch a Shellder and somehow make it bite your Slobros tail in order to evolve it.

Imagine my disappointment to find out it evolved just by leveling up, leaving me wondering where on earth the second Pokemon on its tail came from.

Also according to the often unreliable Pokedex entries, Slowbro can devolve if you remove Shellder from its tail.

Magikarp Tattoo

King of the most useless Pokemon, this Koi Fish Tattoo is of Magikarp, the 129th Pokemon in the Pokedex.

Magikarps most iconic move Splash is actually a mistranslation of the Japanese word for Hop.

This explains why it is a normal type move that can learned by the likes of Hoppop, Spoink, and Buneary.

Spinarak Tattoo

This Spider Tattoo is of another of my personal favorite Pokemon, Spinarak, the 167th Pokemon in the Pokedex and the first Spider Pokemon in the series.

This Pokemon can spin webs that are strong enough to withstand having stones set on them with fisherman using them as their nets for fishing. 

Pokemon Mandala Tattoo

Here is a super cool Mandala Tattoo of a Pokeball.

Mandala tattoos are known for their intricate and symmetrical designs, often incorporating a blend of geometric shapes and symbols that can have spiritual and cultural significance.

Much like the Chikorita Autumn Tattoo Design, I always wanted Game Freak to get more creative with their designs like having this incredible Rose Bulbasaur Design.

Rose Tattoos are associated with passionate love, life, beauty, and strength. 

Neon Pokemon Tattoos

If you want to light up the Darkness a little bit with your Pokemon Tattoo, check out this Neon Pokemon Design of Ditto and Togepie from Pureum who focuses mainly on Neon style Tattoos.

But did you know that it’s believed that Ditto is the result of a failed cloning attempt of the legendary Pokemon Mew?

This is because both have access to Transform at level 1, both share the same color pallets in normal and shiny forms, and in the first games, Ditto can only be found in the Pokemon Mansion where Mewtwo was successfully cloned, or in Cerulean Cave where the clone can be fought and captured.

Pokemon X Simpsons Tattoo

Our last Pokemon crossover Tattoo is a Simpsons crossover Tattoo. This funny design is of a cross between Ralph Wiggum and Psyduck.

This design is appropriate for a number of reasons, being they share the same color skin, they are both considered a bit dim-witted and also it may be a reference to the episode where Lisa gave Ralph a card that said ‘I choo choo choose you’ 

Kaiju Nidoking Tattoo

Nidoking is the 34th Pokemon in the Pokedex and serves as the male counterpart of Nidoqueen.

There was a rumor during my youth that if you followed specific instructions you would be able to acquire Mew.

These steps involved training a Nidoking to level 100, trading him to a trainer near the Vermillion Harbour, who would in turn give you a key that could move a truck that is just at the entrance to the ship docks.

If you moved the truck, Mew would be underneath.

It’s amazing how in a time before the internet was common these rumors spread worldwide as I know people as far as Australia know of this rumor or a variant of it and I come from Ireland.

Beedrill Pokemon Tattoo

Beedrill is the 15th Pokemon in the Pokedex. 

Beedrill live in colonies as they work together to solve basic problems regarding food, territory, and reproduction.

Beedrill can fly at high speed and attack using their large venomous stingers particullarly if they feel weedle and Kakuna are threatened.

Swinub Tattoo

Swinub is the 220th Pokemon in the Pokedex.

Swinub lives in frigid temperatures thanks to its in dense, brown, striped hair keeping it warm.

Its hair is so shaggy you cant see its tuft-like small legs, making it appear like a legless lump.

Swinub is the only Pokémon that can be resistant to damage from all types of weather effects.

Kabutops Tattoo

Kabutops is the 141st Pokemon in the Pokedex and can be acquired by reviving it from the Dome Fossil.

Before its extinction, Kabutops was in the process of evolving due to its prey moving onto land.

It is still unknown as to what led to Kabutops's extinction.

Keldeo Tattoo

Keldeo is the 647th Pokemon in the Pokedex and objectively one of the best Pokemon because it’s inspired from Irish and Scottish folklore.

Keldeo was taken care of by  Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion after losing its mother in a fire.

These three taught it knowledge and moves for survival until Keldeo eventually surpassed them all.

First Choice Pokemon Tattoo

I really stuggled to think of what should be my last Tattoo for this extensive Pokemon Tattoo list.

I thought maybe it should be Ash to honor his retirement as the main character in the anime, or something simple like Mew as he is the 151st Pokemon.
